Jeremiah T. Balser
What is howboutwetalk?
My name is Jeremiah T. Balser. I am now a recovered, former long-time alcoholic & addict. Ok, I know a lot of people will be questioning that statement right there because in general, "once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic". Being an alcoholic definitely carries a stigma with it that you never get completely sober, & that you will forever be in a state of recovery. All it takes is one slip-up, one relapse - & you’ll be right back into living the alcoholic lifestyle. I think in general, in the big picture of alcoholics as a whole - that is absolutely true. However, it is my opinion that the longer you live in a constant "state of recovery" rather than classifying yourself as "recovered", the more you leave yourself open to the risk of relapsing. It could happen any number of ways. It could be as simple as having a couple of drinks because "I've been sober for a while now & I've been doing great, so I deserve a reward. I know I can have a few drinks tonight & I'll go right back to being sober tomorrow ". I can't even begin to tell you how many times I did that very thing...at least a thousand times. The only way to not become an alcoholic again, is to NOT DRINK again. I mean, do you really need to anyways? You've been there & done that...you've already wasted so much of your life drinking...it's just something you don't need to do anymore. Sure, there are people out there that can "have a few on the weekends" & then call it good until next Friday...but you, just like me, aren't one of those people. Join me in the challenge of changing for good & living a COMPLETELY new & better life.
